RCW 39.34 inter-local agreements allow a local government to enter into inter-local agreements with other public bodies in the interest of joint cooperation of resources for mutual benefit. In accordance with rcW 39.34, the University of Washington has entered into inter-local agreements with other public bodies over the years for various purposes. „public body“ means any authority, political subdivision or entity of the local government of that State, including but not limited to municipal bodies, quasi-municipal bodies, special purpose districts and local service districts; any authority of the Government of the State; any U.S. agency; any Indian tribe recognized as such by the federal government; effective June 7, 2006, RCW 39.34.040 was amended to allow a public authority to record inter-local agreements on its website instead of submitting the agreement to the county auditor`s office. State law allows a local government to enter into inter-local agreements with other public entities to share resources cooperatively for its mutual benefit. RCW 39.34.040 allows a public body to list inter-local agreements on its website instead of having the agreement registered in the district auditor`s office. Effective June 7, 2006, RCW 39.34.040 was amended to allow a public authority to record interlocal agreements on its website instead of submitting the agreement to the District Auditor.

Intercoun collaboration can reduce duplication of effort, allow for economies of scale, and generally improve government efficiency. Local governments engage in a variety of collaborative efforts with each other, with government agencies and other government agencies, and interlocal cooperation can take many forms. Agreements that form an authority must be submitted to the Washington Secretary of State, who will send a certificate of registration.
